You may have heard this phrase before, but it’s a very exciting time to be a life. Exiting but also a very strange time to live in. Considering this outbreak and the way it has changed the way we live entirely in just a couple of months!

No one ever thought about the idea that we all be forced to stay home for our own benefits. And we should count our blessings for the fact that it isn’t even worse.

I mean, if we just open the history books, we will be shocked about how people had to endure the worst calamities. Compared to them, the measures we must obey are nothing.

But let’s go back to the main subject of this article which is, “how to be more productive and successful when working from home”. Giving the fact that there are a lot of people who may lose their jobs, this article may benefit all of us.

But before I share with you these 10 “working from home ideas” that you can implement to be more productive, let me tell you something that you need to be aware of.

If you’ve never worked from home, it might not be as easy as it seems.

Yes, you will then be able to save your precious time most people wast on commuting from home to work and vice versa. And yes you will have the luxury to go shopping whenever you want and be in the gym at times when it’s empty, but there is also a downside.

You need to realize that you might be the person that needs to work whit a team to get things done. Working from home means that it all depends on you. There are no agreed deadlines, no colleagues where you can share your struggles with, and no manager to whom you need to be accountable.

It’s you and you only (maybe a cat that brightens you). So cutting commute and wearing pajamas while making a living may seem something to look up for, but please remember that you’re still at work. And the bills need to be paid.

With that said, let’s jump to the 15 ideas you can implement to starting working from the conform of your home.

1. Set strictly working hours

The very first tip I have for you is also the most important one: You need to set strictly working hours for yourself for the days you’re intended to be working on your business.

But be aware of the fact that you can’t deviate from these hours once you’ve frame-worked them.

Once you’ve created for yourself this solid agenda, you’ll be able to plan your time more efficiently, you’ll be able to complete your work (very important) and you’ll also be able to plan quality time with your love ones.

But please, don’t go hardcore with planning these working hours. In other words, don’t be the “ambitious guy/girl” that wants to work from 5 am until 11 pm. You want to schedule your working day so that you can:

  1. Have reaks on a regular basis
  2. Go for a run or even to the gym
  3. Spend time with your family
  4. Have breakfast, lunch, and diner

And please don’t skip this advice. Having a work schedule is maybe one of the greatest inventions when it comes to starting your own business (maybe even greater than your laptop 😉

It’s the most important variable that helps you get into that “work zone” that you simply need to have to get your work done.

2. Exercise on a daily basis

This might be my second best advice when it comes to working from home and starting your own business. And believe me, this component is REALLY important.

And I know what you might think right now: you’re advising me about working inside and not outside my home. So why are you even mentioning the daily exercise?

The answer is really simple. Just think about it. When people go physically to there work somewhere downtown, they have to move there bodies to do so (and yes, even when they commute with their car they have to do some physical movements as well).

When you decide to work from home, you may find yourself doing a lot fewer movements than usual.

And this might sound a bit cliche, but committing on a daily exercise helps you stay fresh and clear in your mind.

And no, you don’t have to pay $80 a month at some fancy gym nearby. You can just take a break in the middle of your working day and go for a 30 minutes jog. Is it raining outside and you don’t want to get wet, then set a timer and do as many pushups, sit-ups and squats as you can.

3. Cut Out Distractions

I know. Social media and watching Netflix can be very attempting. Especially when you work from home. Because why not just having your screen on your favorite Netflix show while answering emails back?

This might be attempting but if you’re not careful, your work will be affected negatively.

You should remind yourself that are no colleagues or manager sitting around that looks over your shoulder. So it might be very tempting to just focus fully on that Netflix show or that YouTube documentary instead of doing the actual work.

It’s basically a slippery slope. Most people think they can handle this kind of “multi-tasking” (whatever that means), but in reality, they just procrastinate even more.

So here are some tips that you can use to cut out distraction:

Download apps that help you fight this procrastination modus. A great app for iPhone is Forest or if you want the free version, then you can go for Plantie.

Putting your phone in another room might even be a better solution If you already know that these apps don’t work for you.
